This black marble comes from a quarry in Belgium that has unfortunately closed. The stone is known as Noir de Golzinne (also called Noir de Mazy) and has been used in notable buildings such as the Taj Mahal and the Palace of Versailles. In the past it was also frequently used for mantel clocks.
In this stone my personal signature in carving is clearly visible. Parts of the sculpture remain in their natural state, as the stone came from the quarry. Other areas have been shaped using a rasp and then polished by hand.
